A Taste of Sierra Leone
On Saturday, 2 April 2005, members of ASC and the surrounding
community were treated to an evening of Sierra Leonean cuisine, culture, and fashion.
Things got more serious after that with a presentation on the strife that
war torn Sierra Leone is now experiencing. Additional background
information on this fund raising event is provided after the pictures on this page.
A sampling of pictures from that evening appears below.

Background Information
- Sierra Leone is a small country in west Africa that is recovering from 11 years of
civil war that destroyed much of the countries infra structure, including schools
and hospitals
- Sierra Leonean Association of the Merrimack Valley (SLAM) is a group of
Sierra Leoneans, Christian and Muslim, living is this area who
have been raising funds and collecting supplies to send back to their home land.
- They have been working with individuals in Sierra Leone to insure that funds
and supplies get to the right place
- They are working with Community Teamwork Inc. in Lowell who manage and account
for all of the money they collect.
- We began working with them when Tom Barrington met Ibrahim Fofana the founder
of SLAM in 2003. Two members of there group spoke at the Forum for Faith and
the World last October. Interest by members of All Saints’ led to a dinner
in January with a dozen members of SLAM and a dozen members of ASC. From that
event a steering committee was formed to plan a fund raising dinner.
- The planning team from All Saints’ for the "Taste of Sierra Leone" fund raising
dinner included David Kuzara, Lois Freeman, Stephanie Ackert, Trina Teele,
Laura Marshall, and Edith Parekh.
- If you would like to make a donation towards improving the situation
in Sierra Leone, make a check out to All Saints' Church, with "Sierra Leone"
on the memo line, and drop it into the offertory collection, or send it to
the church office at 10 Billerica Road, Chelmsford, MA 01824.
