Outreach as part of Children's Christian Education
Each year the Lower Church School participates in a variety of outreach projects which
allows the children to learn the value of acting on their faith and giving back from
which they receive.
Following is a list of the programs supported last year (2006-2007), along with a list
of the programs to be targeted for the upcoming church school year. Your encouragement
and support is greatly appreciated.
- Food for the Chelmsford Food Pantry
- Along with the congregation, the children are
encouraged to bring food in each week to support the Chelmsford Food Pantry. The food
is collected outside their classroom each week. Whatever you can share is greatly
appreciated.
- Heifer International
- In the past funds have been collected in a variety of ways to
support this program which helps children and families around the world receive training
and animals gifts that help them become self-reliant. Shoebox Clothes Pin Nativity
Scenes created by the 1st and 2nd grade Bridge students and a Read-A-Thon by the
3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grade Firelight students resulted in the purchase of geese, ducks,
chickens, rabbits and water buffalo.
- Bike’s Not Bombs
- BNB is a non-profit organization working for alternative transportation
in Africa and abroad as well as community development in the City of Boston. The
3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grade Firelight students held a bicycle collection drive this
past Spring. They took in over 140 bicycles and $600.00 in cash donations.
