From Maggie Marshall, Minister of Music
This cool weather helps us, whether or not we want it to, to think of the fall and switching gears. We have an active music program with four choir rehearsals on Thursday nights. Our vocal choirs start with grade 1 or 2 (as soon as a child can read words) and goes up from there. Last year, our choirs re-branded themselves. The Disco Penguins meets on Thursdays from 5:30-6:15 and sings twice monthly. This group sings mostly unison, dabbles in foreign languages, and goes through grade 4 or 5. The B Sharp Choir continues from there and is for treble voices through high school. This group does 2 or 3 part music of all genres, and dabbles a bit more heavily in music sung in foreign languages. This group meets from 6:30-7:30 on Thursdays and also sings 2x monthly. The Parish Choir is for all who don’t fit into the first two categories, and meets Thursdays from 7:45-9:15, and sings weekly at the 10:00 a.m. service. This choir sings a variety of genres, and rehearses well in advance. The ability to read music is a plus, but is not required. The Handbell Choir meets Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 and may have an opening or two. If you are interested in knowing more about that choir, please contact its director, Debbie Psilopoulos, or speak to any handbell member. Rehearsals for all choirs start on 9/18, and we would love to see some new faces!
